Discover how FADA's Rail Transfer Carts (RTC) provide innovative solutions for the safe and efficient transportation of heavy and geometrically challenging loads in industrial settings.

Rail Transfer Carts (RTC): The Safe Way of Ground Transportation

What is a Rail Transfer Cart?

FADA Rail Transfer Carts are industrial heavy-load transportation systems designed to move heavy and geometrically complex materials within industrial facilities along fixed rail lines. These systems ensure safe, precise, and efficient movement across production lines — both horizontally and vertically.

At FADA Engineering, we manufacture rail transfer carts with load capacities ranging from 5 to 400 tons. They provide a safe and efficient method for transporting loads between production areas and are available with various control options such as remote control, autonomous operation, or synchronized systems. Each cart is tailored to fit your facility’s power supply setup and specific operational needs.

Features of Rail Transfer Carts

FADA’s rail transfer carts offer outstanding advantages for industrial load handling, including:

  1. Capacity: Suitable for a wide range of applications, from 5 tons up to 400 tons.
  2. Speed: Operates at speeds up to 60 m/min, improving production line efficiency.
  3. Wheels: Durable steel or cast wheels ensure long service life.
  4. Control Options: Available in remote-controlled, semi-automatic, or fully autonomous models.
  5. Power Supply: Powered by cable reel, busbar, cable carrier, battery, or diesel — depending on operational needs.
  6. Motors: Equipped with AC/DC electric motors, or hydraulic/pneumatic actuators as required.
  7. Safety: Integrated safety sensors (laser, ultrasonic) and bumpers provide maximum operator protection.
  8. Certification: Manufactured according to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, EN standards, and CE certified.

Power Supply Options

The energy requirements of rail transfer carts can be met through different systems, depending on the facility’s layout and application:

  1. Cable Reel: Provides continuous energy transmission by automatically winding the cable during operation.
  2. Busbar System: Supplies uninterrupted energy through conductor bars mounted along the rail line.
  3. Cable Carrier: Keeps cables organized and protected within the movement path.
  4. Lithium Battery: Offers full mobility without cable dependency, providing maximum flexibility and convenience.

FADA’s Rail Transfer Cart Projects

1. 35-Ton Capacity Scrap Charging Cart

In this 35-ton rail transfer cart project, we integrated a scrap ladle onto the cart with a custom-designed upper table system. A built-in load cell allows precise weight monitoring of the scrap material. The cabin-controlled operation enables personnel to safely perform line-to-line material transfers.

2. 50-Ton Capacity Synchronized Rail Transfer Carts

For a client in the construction industry, FADA engineered a synchronized system of 15 rail transfer carts to safely transport 150-ton concrete structures. The carts communicate and operate in perfect synchronization, ensuring reliable indoor and outdoor movement of long and heavy loads.

3. 30-Ton Autonomous Rail Transfer Cart with Hydraulic Lifting System

For our Italy-based client, we designed a 30-ton rail coil transfer cart equipped with a hydraulic lifting mechanism for safe and efficient coil transportation. Enhanced with ultrasonic sensors, lasers, and bumpers, this system provides autonomous navigation and maximum safety while maintaining compatibility with existing factory rails.
